Julie is renovating her home and is going for the black & white theme throughout. She has some beautiful pieces of traditional furniture that she did not want to lose. The answer? Go Japan black! Black at a glance but with the lovely solid silky oak grain character sneaking through upon closer inspection. Let’s see the modern, mass produced furniture makers do that!
We have a few mid-century extension tables in for restoration at the moment. This one has special meaning for our client as she remembers sitting at it as a child. She wanted it restored so that her own children could enjoy it too. The problem with a lot of these types of tables is that the tops are made from “chipboard”. This material tends to swell and deteriorate over the years due to exposure to moisture. We re-used the original base frame and solid timber edge and replaced the old top and now it looks as good as new, and will last another generation.

Just another massive project we’re doing for a leading insurance brokerage firm. The work keeps piling in and can you believe that a good percentage of it is re-work resulted from dodgy repairs by another restoration/polishing company. No names being mentioned but if they’re following us on social media, I guess they already know by now! (not sorry!)
There’s plenty of work out there for all of us, just do it properly so that the industry reputations remains intact.

This is a story that we all hope would never happen to us.
Jane had a flood loss some 2 years ago, and the furniture and silverware involved is now being restored for the third time. The first two attempts were by other restorers and the stories are just amazing. Furniture coming back to her in multi-coloured tones in an attempt to hide some of the repair sins, pieces of fine antiques lost or missing, the chair arm rests from 2 carver dining chairs missing, and the mounting holes where the arms used to plugged with putty together with a denial that there were ever arms there, antique veneered silverware canteens with the veneer sanded straight through and the list just goes on and on…
