Alison’s Japanese chest has been totally dismantled along with all the fragile little steel straps and corner pieces. Now it sits ready to take pride of place in her bedroom.
We always thought that things came in threes. Here at Renowned, we have restored no less that 15 genuine, Japanese antiques and other pieces in the past 9 months. How much of a coincidence is this? Think I’ll go and buy “8” scratchies!

Rosie has had this towel stand for many years, but it was screaming at her newly refurbished bathroom. Now it will sit nicely and be there for another 30 years or so.
Yes, it was silky oak and, yes, our guys were a little put off at first when the instruction came to restore, sand and repolish Japan Black. But once it was done, everyone was on board. It looks lovely!
Not my kind of desk for practical reasons but what a beauty. Made in Japan in 1912 and now rebirthed by us. We actually used a water based (water borne) poly polish to try and get a look that appears sanded but not polished. Raw Japanese!
Possibly purchased from the pine cottage, or A-Mart, or somewhere like that, but still, it’s solid timber and was worth restoring after a major water event.
So, now it’s time to have some happiness back in our lives. These 5 dining chairs were hand made. They each weigh a tonne! We’ll be glad to return these beauties and see the smile return to Mary’s face.
