Helen’s Huon prize
We recently completed a restoration job on a genuine Parker Knoll chair for Helen and when we returned it, she asked if we could repair her husband’s pride and joy – a very rare burl slab of Huon pine from Tasmania.
Looking at the detail and number of rings within this burl, we estimate this tree was about 2,500 years old. So this tree started it’s sapling life somewhere in 430 BC! A time, pre-Julian Roman calendar, an era of Sparta and Attica and regular outbreaks of the plague, etc. Amazing to see this piece of history sitting at a pride of place in a home in downtown Kenmore in 2016!
