The client recently had kitchen refurbishment, and the designer decided that the kitchen hutch, which is original to the house, needed to be incorporated into the design.
Before
Renowned set about cleaning up and repairing the kitchen hutch and gave it a fresh coat of paint. It now looks like it belongs again.
A lot of businesses advertise “no job too big or small,” but often the small jobs are passed over. At Renowned, in addition to the custom work and restorations, we do a fair few small repairs such as broken legs, repair of cracks and the like.
We also happily do very small custom jobs.
This client wanted a custom carved spice rack made for a birthday gift for her partner. The client, located in NSW, couldn’t find a local maker to do the work for her. After sending us an email detailing the style she was after, we drew up a design and made this cute little unit.
Soon after delivery, we received this lovely thank-you note from the client:
“Just wanted to let you know I received the spice rack in time and love what you have put together. Thank you for your quick work and communication.”
We have recently completed a large project for Walter’s Steakhouse, a new iconic restaurant in Brisbane City known for their prime Australian, grain-fed, dry-aged porterhouse beef paired with the best wines.
Dining at Walter’s Steakhouse is an experience like no other — from the food to the service and to the interiors, which radiate an old world charm.
Renowned Furniture was tasked to deliver custom made fine wood furniture, whilst staying true to the theme of the interiors.
This is how this project went from this…
to this…
We were approached by the interior designer and given a specific design brief to quote. A key requirement was the need to ensure the furniture supplied matched the vision of the owners for the restaurant’s interior.
Our experience in design and manufacture of furniture allowed us to supply beautiful but functional restaurant tables, react quickly to changes in design and deadlines, and meet the client’s specific requirements.
Here are some shots of the early stages of the project.

We have been posting articles related to repurposed furniture. But now it’s time to showcase our own work.
This display cabinet was previously an old wardrobe. We fixed the damage and changed the left side to full glass in the door, and refinished it.

Sometimes furniture outlives its purpose. We love to take projects like this as it challenges our creativity to reinvent an old furniture.
Repurposing furniture is also being kind to the environment. Instead of throwing it away and becoming waste for the landfill, you are turning them into something useful and beautiful for your home.
If you have old pieces of furniture that need a fresh start, contact us and we might have amazing ideas on how to repurpose your old furniture.
Linda brought in this oval presentation table and asked us to repair the top and the hinge mechanism. Unfortunately, the top was not salvageable, so we had to remake to match the existing base.
Here is the replica before polishing and the existing base.
Gerry came to Renowned with a vision for a simple but timeless office desk. We sat with him to consult with the various customisations, including sizing, type of timber species and colour, finish, etc.
Here is what our skilled craftsmen came up with, and Gerry was very satisfied and happy with the final results!
This gorgeous Chippendale table was damaged by water. We repaired the damage to the foot, sanded it back and refinished it.
After our boys did their magic, this piece is ready to go back home looking clean and brand new again.
Often called the Royalty of Antique Furniture, Chippendale furniture create a sophisticated and elegant vibe in any room. If you have the real thing and not an imitation, it is important to always keep it in good condition.
Here’ is how:
Don’t place it in direct sunlight, as this can cause fading in the wood’s colour. In addition, avoid placing them near fireplaces or radiators.
Putting hot dishes directly on top of your Chippendale furniture is a huge no-no. Use coasters lined with smooth materials like felt because any other may damage or scratch the wood.
Maintain its sheen by giving it a regular polish to prevent it from appearing dull and unappealing.
If you have an old Chippendale, call on the experts like Renowned Furniture. We will restore your furniture and return it like nothing happened.
Once again, Renowned Furniture has come to the rescue of furniture damaged by water and force brought about by a strong cyclone.
Category 4 Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsunday Region in North Queensland in March 2017, but 10 months later the damage it caused is still being repaired.
One of the hardest hit areas was Hayman Island. Because of the damage from Cyclone Debbie, Hayman residents are still rebuilding and the resort will not open until late 2018.
Renowned Furniture is proud to be a part of this beautiful island’s restoration. We had been called upon to repair and refinish outdoor chairs and tables damaged by the cyclone.
This was an insurance job that hardly seems like work with a view like this! As you can see, the end result was fantastic.
Another job well done by our talented master craftsmen!
It’s 2018, and as it is the beginning of a new year, It’s time once again to reflect on the business and look back at some of our notable projects during the past year.
2017 was another fantastic year for Renowned Furniture. We started the year fielding so many enquiries, mostly from people asking for quotes and the rest just seeking advice on what they can do with their old furniture. We even hired new staff mid-year to keep up with the orders.
We instituted a number of measures to ensure the continued success of the business. We launched a “Product Placement” venture that saw some of our custom-made furniture pieces displayed at the sales space of London Residence West End, a private residential building on Bailey Street, and a company within the same industry – a 30-year veteran of fine office style furniture. There we displayed a few of our more daring pieces – conversion pieces, for sure!
In the middle of the year, we became officially independent from the power grid with the installation of solar panels that can generate enough power even during our peak loads. This is our biggest investment for the year, and the return on investment is very promising, not to mention that we can claim to be a business with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
We are also happy to report that we completed a number of custom and restoration jobs that turned out beautifully that our clients were satisfied and grateful. It is really a nice feeling to receive notes from happy clients!
Renowned were able to secure several big contracts. One of our coups this year was a chance to make a boardroom buffet piece for one of the world’s biggest defence contractors. It wasn’t a highly technical piece, but we were proud to have taken on that challenge because of the possibilities of future collaboration with this particular client.
We underwent a slight change this year, and that was the change in management. As was recounted a few times in previous newsletters, the former owners were receiving a number of enquiries with regards to selling the business as is, both from groups and individuals.
Renowned Furniture are now under the management of Aaron and Melissa. The new owners bring with them extensive experience in furniture and cabinet making.
We say it was a slight change because the transition was virtually seamless. We retained the same staff and maintained (and continue to improve) the same processes that allow Renowned to churn out top quality jobs. While the transition was on-going, it was “business as usual” for us.
We are expecting another fantastic run in 2018 and we are confident that we can deliver the same quality of service that Renowned has become known for in our small circle of furniture restorers and manufacturers in Brisbane.
To all our loyal customers and followers, we wish you a happy and prosperous 2018!
